THE 2nd CRES TRIATHLON

After last year's success, THE 2nd CRES TRIATHLON was organised again on 24 August 2008 and again warmly welcomed by many local and foreign recreational and semi- professional athletes.

40 people joined the race (8 female and 32 male), between 15 and 59 years of age.This year no one gave up and all contestants made it to the finsh line!

8300 meters long race was organised according to usual triathlon ratios as follows:
1: Swimming 250 meters
2: Cycling 6400 meters
3: Running 1650 meters

The race started at 5.20 pm with swimming from the nudist beach in autocamp 'Kovacine'and the first to make it to the finish line on the beach 'Karaula' was Colm Turner in 3.38 minutes thus braking last year's record by 18 seconds.
The second part was cycling along a path with many uphills and downhills. The path was carefully chosen and marked this year. Special attention was given to safety so that it enabled competitors to go "full speed ahead". The fastest competitor was Saša Javorović (11.58 minutes), who also broke last year's record by 1.42 minutes.
Running from the centre of the town of Cres back to the camp was the final temptation.We wish to say thank you to all the people who supported all our contestants, but we also wish level criticism against those inhabitatns of Cres who presented themselves in worst possible light- making rude remarks and teasing the competitors.
The fastest runner was Colm Turner (8.14 minutes) and again broke last year's record by 1.59 minutes.
He became the winner of the 2nd Cres Triathlon, completing it in 23.23 minues, again beating last year's record by 2.14 minutes.

The fastest female swimmer was Waltraud Janner-Stahl (4.28 minutes), braking last year's female record by 15 seconds.
Angela Bergmann was the fastest cyclist (17 minutes).
Angela Bergmann was also the fastets runner (9.35 minutes).
Angela Bergmann has repeated last year's success and again became the female winner, completing the race in 31.35 seconds, improving her own record by 22 seconds. :)

Slightly behind schedule, info counter was installed and the registration could begin at around 3 pm...	...starting fee was 30 kn, and all the contestants got a gift T- shirt, thanks to this year's sponsors: TOURIST BOARD OF THE TOWN OF CRES and PORT OF CRES AUTHORITY...

Contestants were headed to the start line on time through our beautiful camp 'KOVAČINE'...	...and the start line was on the nudist beach...

Most of the contestants were waiting in the sea for the start of the race but not many swam before the start due to bura that had cooled the sea a few days earlier...	...the last goodbye to the audience before the start...

CRES TRIATHLON 2008 starts at exactly 5.20 pm.	...and the most spectacular part of the race begins, contestants vanish in the sea, only to be replaced by huge foam out of which many arms and legs show up in fight for the best position...

Swimming path is 10- 50 meters from the shore, one part of in next to ne nudist besch, this many swimmers can only be seen once a year :)	Some have decided to stay not to receive a blow in the head, and some have, naturally, entered the sea in the very last moment...

...this year the speed of the contestants was remarkable...	...if only there were more sights like this in Cres...

A view of Punta Pernat above which the sun was shining brightly...	...soon the swimmers formed two groups, closely observed by the audience...

The edge of the 'Karaula' beach was so full that it almost turned over :)	...the race had turned into a real thriller...

the first three contestants were at each other's...	...arm's reach...

...to the very end it was a real race worth of photo finish...	The first to come out was Colm Turner setting the new record- 3 minutes and 38 seconds...

...The second to come out was our boy from Cres- last year's fastest swimmer- Aleksandar Abramov (3 minutes and 43 seconds)...	Followed by Darragh Turner (3 minutes and 48 seconds)...

And followed by everybody else...	...the fastest female contestant was Waltraud Janner-Stahl (4 minutes and 28 seconds), braking last year's female record by 15 seconds...

Running to the 'changing zone'...	...some were just arriving, others already moving on...

The fastest female contestant from Cres (and the second fastest swimmer) was Tamara Lazarević (4 minutes and 36 seconds) - well done, Tamy!	The contestants were also competing in the fastest pulling on the socks :)
